SAL Men’s Intro to Recovery is a 6-week Course Recommended for All Newcomers.
The Course is currently undergoing a software upgrade as well as a major re-vamp of Content. This Course will represent a comprehensive daily curriculum to immerse participants in a new, recovery lifestyle.
It will be necessary for you to have The Working Recovery Bundle for this Course. These are also the books and materials you will use as you attend your 12-Step meetings and begin working your Steps with a sponsor. If you have not yet purchased The Working Recovery Bundle, you can buy it here.
It is important to understand that you will attend Intro to Recovery Online meetings in addition to your weekly SAL 12-Step meeting.
The Intro to Recovery Curriculum covers the following 6 topics:
- Why can’t I just stop?–Understanding Addiction
- The Recovery Puzzle & Working Recovery
- Step Zero: Stopping & Staying Stopped through Bottom Lines & Boundaries
- Circles Models: Understanding Addiction & Trauma
- Sponsorship
- Surrender
Once registered, you will have access to the online Course on your sal12step.org Homepage. There you will find the Zoom link for your weekly meeting.
You will have video tutorials to view, daily tasks to complete, and suggested readings to study. Plan to spend about 30 minutes per day in the Course content. Each week, you will have the opportunity to share what you have learned and ask questions to a temporary sponsor and other group members in a live meeting.
This Men’s Intro to Recovery Course meeting will be held on Zoom on Wednesday evenings, at 9:30 pm MST. Meetings are 60 minutes in length.
This Course will really help you find the tools and understanding you need to launch into a “new normal,” a recovery lifestyle.
Appropriate Boundaries for Safety are one of the four essential puzzle pieces of recovery from betrayal trauma.
Without boundaries for safety in place, it will be almost impossible to heal and progress in recovery. But, for many of us, the concept of boundaries is completely foreign when we first come to SAL. This course will walk you through, step-by-step, the process of understanding what boundaries you may need, why you need them, and how to implement them.
The support and guidance of an SAL sponsor will be invaluable here. We highly encourage you to use her as you go through the process of establishing your boundaries for safety.
This is an ongoing Course that helps our members work Step 11:
“Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.”
An ongoing practice of meditation and mindfulness can strengthen our ability to work all of the Steps. We become more capable of being present in our daily living, more aware of our trauma reactions and triggers, and feel a stronger connection with the Higher Power of our understanding.
Holly Lambert, the creator of these Guided Meditations, has been practicing yoga and meditation for several years and has done over 500 hours of training. She has also spent hundreds of hours teaching classes at Safe Haven troubled teen facility, addiction recovery inpatient facilities, SALifeline groups, and Utah Domestic Violence Coalition events. She has a special gift for using the art of meditation to help individuals on their pathway of healing from trauma.
For those willing to try, a regular meditation practice can be a game-changer in recovery.
